Old Soldier Dies
Wright Robbins, one of the aged residents of Monmouth, and who had served for eight months in the
Civil war with company F of the 148th Illinois regiment, died early February 5, 1914, at his home at
424 North F street. He had been in poor health for some time and death was not altogether
unexpected.
Mr. Robbins was born in Ohio in 1829, and came to Illinois with his parents in 1849, settling at
Berwick. In 1850 he married Miss Phebe J. Sargeant at Oquawka, who preceded him in death about 32
years.
He was married the second time to Mrs. Jennie Downey in 1907, who survived him with six children,
none of whom lived in Monmouth.
He was a member of the Rushville post of the G.A.R. His funeral was conducted by Rev. C.F.W. Smith,
then the remains were taken to Rushville for burial.
