Joseph Edward Long

Stronghurst (JGF)-Funeral services for Mr. Joe Long were held in the Mellor Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon with the Rev. Cyril Jackson, pastor of the Methodist Church officiating. Mrs. Vern Wood and Mrs. Wayne Meek sang "What a Friend We Have In Jesus" and "Under His Wings" Mrs. Robert Powerll accompanied them at the piano. Edison Park, William Pendry, Clarence Dixon, Wilkie Lant, Jesse Denum and Harry Coffman, members of the Odd Fellows lodge were pallbearerrs. Burial was in the Stronghurst cemetery.

Joseph Edward Long, son of Jonathan and Mary Long, was born in Olena, Illinois, September 18, 1875. He passed away at his home in Stronghurst, Thursday, February 17, 1955. He is survived by his wife, Mae; a step-sister, Helen Coleman of Chicago; a step-son, Elmer Coleman of Texas; a half brother and three half sisters, John Long, Mrs. Mary Watson, Mrs. Maude Burrell, and Julia Frances all of Burlington, Iowa and a host of friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Stronghurst Methodist Church.
