This is part of my family tree file as Jonathan was my gggrandfather. It was printed in the
Stronghurst Grapic on 17, July 1913
Johnathan P. Long was born in Bowling Green, Warren Co. Kentucky, Oct 4, 1832. Departed this life
July 9, 1913, aged 80 yr. 9 mo. 5 da. He came to Illinois at the age of 14 years and has been a
resident since that time.
He was converted during the tabernacle meeting held in Stronghurst by Evangelist Hicks in 1907 and
connected himself with the Olena M.E. Church of which he remained a faithful member.
He entered the service of his country on the 30th day of August 1861 as a private in Co. C Regiment
10th Illinois Volunteer Infantry and was honorable dischared on the 14th day of March 1863 as 2nd
Lieutenant Co. E, Reg 91 Ill. Inf. by reason of resignation.
Along in April a cancer appeared upon the side of the throat of the deceased which proved to be very
malignant. Medical aid was found to be powerless to check its growth and it finally ate its way into
the jugular vein and death resulted.
The deceased was 3 times married and is survived by a wife, 9 children and 3 sisters, Mrs. Eliza
McNary of Guthrie Center, Ia, Mrs. Rebecca Pendleton of Chattaroy, Washington, adn Mrs. Anna Hedges
also of Washington.
