DIED---In Oquawka precinct, Nov. 10th, 1881 of membranous croup, Ellen*, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Essex, aged 4 years, 5 months and 5 days. *My research found that the name Ellen; is incorrect. The following also appeared in the newspaper on November 24, 1881.
ESSEX, HATTIE DELL --In Oquawka precinct, Nov 10th, 1881, of membranous croup, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Essex , aged 4 years, 5 months, and 5 days. Go to the peaceful rest; For thee we need not weep, Since thou art new among the blest. No more by [ ] [and] sorrow pressed. Thine eye [ble] gently close.
