Alice Moore Barnett |
---|
Miss Alice Moore was born in North Umberland County Virginia December 14, 1812 and died near Smithshire Illinois, July 4 1800. She was united in Marraige to John Barnett April 2, 1934. They came west to Henderson County, Illinois in June of 1837 and settled on a farm one mile west of the village of Smithshire, then a wild prairie. There she resided for more than 63 years and toiled and helped to rear a large family. It can truly be said that she was one of the oldest settlers and pioneers. She leaves two sisters who came to this county with her and six children, viz: Chas, R. Barnett, Kirkwood; Lucy Salter, Colorado; Mrs. William Kingsland; Mrs. Anna Brazelton, Smithshire; Mrs. Kate Barnett, Red Oak, Iowa; Ellen J. Barnett, Media. All were present at the funeral except Mrs. Salter. Her husband died Aug. 30, 1892 and five other children preceded the father to the grave. Besides the six children surviving, there are eighteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren. The deceased was a christian hearted woman, a faithful wife and loving mother, and was beloved by all who knew her. She was always ready and willing to do her duty. Her affliction has covered a period of twenty years, during the last few of which she was speechless and almost helpless, yet she suffered it all patiently and without complaint. She is now beyond suffering and pain and has gone to join her husband in a better land. The funeral services were held in the Smithshire M. E. Church Thursday forenoon and were conducted by Pastor Diffenbaugh. The internment was made in the Kirkwood Cemetery. The pallbearers were C. E. Perkins, James Greenlee, Kirkwood; James Brown, John Edwards, George Brent, Smithshire; and Theo Davidson, Media. This Obit was provided by one of our lookup volunteers Gary L. Barnett |
